Man wanted for questioning over fatal new town crash

Two women said they were on a vacation at a home in Fairmount on Sunday morning when they were called to investigate a traffic incident on U.S. 66 eastbound that left one woman dead and another injured.

After the crash, one of the women said she heard a man yelling for help, while a second woman tried to help a vehicle. When firefighters arrived, they found the car on fire and some residents had suffered minor burns, fire officials said.

Police initially believed a second vehicle involved had struck a truck, but the vehicles came from opposite directions, suggesting one of the vehicles was driven intentionally, police said.

The woman driving the second vehicle was not in the truck and, as a result, the driver of the truck had to be extricated, police said.

A woman in the truck later told police she saw a man standing about 10 to 15 feet away in the westbound lane when the fire went out. She told investigators the driver appeared to have no recollection of driving around a fire or going anywhere.

The fire and the fire that spread in the truck's side hood prompted Fairmount Mayor Tim Harnish to issue a statement: "The city is devastated by this tragic event and their thoughts and prayers are with their family."

Lanter said a "large number of motorists, especially seniors, seniors, women, are having a difficult time with this type of vehicle fire. As it is, there is only one lane of traffic in both directions along U.S. 66 at this time."

The two drivers in the SUV are believed to have driven west on Interstate 66 into the town of Fairmount, which is just southeast of Portland, and continued south for miles, Lanter said. No one was injured.

The driver of the truck was identified Thursday as 45-year-old Dwayne Devereau of Fairmont.

"I have been contacted by all sides and, unfortunately, it appears it did not come to fruition," Lanter said.

The man who lived on the road with the other woman is being held without bail for investigation of suspicion of manslaughter.

The fire occurred at 3:47 p.m. Sunday, just after an hour, Lanter said. He said officers are investigating what caused the fire.

Nz killed in thailand bar fight

The police were looking to find suspects who may have committed an attempted robbery in Phnom Penh on Monday (Dec 12) after they were called to the scene, according to local media reports.

The attack was not linked to the notorious fight between an American and a Thai woman at the Thai bar, the Bangkok Post newspaper reported.
